Trap Them are sweet. I got to see them a few years back on a really awesome tour with Modern Life is War and Trash Talk.

Traditional hardcore kinda died with the 80s. Post Hardcore died with At the Drive-in.

Hardcore's pretty monotonous. "Hey we like powerchords and being pissed off, let's see how long we can drag this out."

Congratulations, you just discovered punk and metal. It's all alive, you're just ignorant.
He Is Legend is not a hardcore band.
I'm not ignorant, doing the same exact thing with no innovation for 20+ years is not innovation.

The No Wave Scene from the 70s is punk rock. There was expression and though not many of them could play their instruments they had *gasp* soul.
I've seen hardcore bands from different states over the last 8 years and they're all boring and lack real expression. They're all rich kids with nice equipment that go to thrift stores for an image and force themselves to be crusties to be cool because they can't accept real responsibilies.
Until people attempt real effects and layers instead of just playing fast with distortion I'm not really interested. What's the point of a band that breaks up after a couple of years because they hit a wall? "aw man, I ran out of shit to complain about. I guess I'll start another one to repeat the process...I hear so and so can come up with decent basslines...yeah"
To me, the last interesting thing punk related is Lightning Bolt, Black Dice and Liars.
You can disagree but I'd rather a real discussion than "you're wrong" or "that sucks" because that gets old.

I really don't feel like quoting the 5 or 6 comments I'd like to respond to, but here's my 2 cents.
I don't feel like I'm in the wrong for listening to (and playing) music that isn't "innovative" or "groundbreaking". I spent the last year and a half playing shows and touring with a folk rock band that attempted "innovation". Now I'm in a punk rock band that is playing the same style of music that has been repeated time and time again for the past decade. And yet, I still get greater satisfaction from the band with little to no "experimentation" than I did in that pretentious indie-rock band. Why's that? I just enjoy this style more. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Why is it that everytime somebody experiments or tries something it's called pretentious? That's the most overused word next to hipster. You get satisfaction because playing punk is easy and gets a few young people pumped and given the right energy it is fun to be around. There's definitely nothing wrong with wanting that fun energy. But when you listen to harcore band one after the other over a certain amount of years, you realize how little it develops.
would it really hurt to add a few new effects pedals? At least ska uses delay.

I love almost all effects.
i'd rather senseless noise to mediocre structured music, noise is harder to replicate night after night, especially if there's a lot of fury and texture going on.
I would have to say of all the indie bands I really hate Deathcab and Manchester Orchestra. UGH, pop indie is the worst.
How cool would it be to see a hardcore punk band that did fuzz and tremolo for a change?

Manchester Orchestra are fucking TRASH, oh man. Glad someone else hates them.
And I agree about bringing innovation to hardcore. That's why I love shit like Flipper and Big Black so much. Supposed to be working on some punky shit with a couple friends soon, I want it to be heavy as fuck but I wanna bring in a lot of influence from noise rock and no-wave type stuff, especially Suicide.

aw man, no more Men Working In Trees? =/ They're still around, yo. I'm just not an official member anymore. In fact, they just put out a new EP a month back or so. I'm filling in on bass when they go back out of the road this summer, though.
ah, cool cool.

Fuzz is ALWAYS good. To me anyway.
I mean, look at Mudhoney and Green River, and assorted other bands associated with the early grunge scene. Not straight hardcore, but definitely derivative of it, and that shit was like 400% fucken fuzz.

I can respect the fact you dislike fuzz, some effects can be kinda lame.
The Replacements were cool and they used a chorus pedal on some songs I believe.
A Silver Mount Zion is pretty awesome punk too but they blend it with post rock. Look up the lyrics for "God Bless our Dead Marines" and tell me that's not punk.
