Question:

What languages are you coding in?

My thoughts:

Looks decent for beginner/simple stuff.

HTML, CSS, and some Java. This is more or less for the experience while I'm studying to be html certified.

and thank you

I must be sheltered since I never understood "Freelance" web design. <_< I kinda figured it was some program. Now that you say HTML, CSS and Java, uh... I guess I freelance too?

Looks good. It's mighty huge, but congrats on not going overboard with detail and flashy shit. I friggin' hate when poor web designers do that.

You're opinion is what matters most, you won't be asked to pay more than what you think my work is worth.

Not a good way to do business, really. You need to come up with price structure. If you're just trying to get new clients, offer some cheapies for a while, or better yet, offer to do sites for free if they leave a link back to your design page.

Also, it needs to be *your opinion is what matters most.

if you were a good web designer, you'd not use templates created by webs.com and use a site you actually created.
this site doesn't show what you're capable of in the least.

I dont have price structure yet because I've never done anything other than work for free; but it won't stay open ended for long. Plus, I'm doing this more for experience than money at the moment.

Also, I'm using templates because the domain and hosting is free. I'm aware of the irony, and I'll change it when I can either afford to buy my own domain and hosting, or find it free, but with the option of actual code access.

Also, debating on putting the homepage someplace else and making the whole site more discussion based.

1.) with webs you can design your own page. you just have to know how to. again, proving you're probably newer to this than you want people to assume.

2.) making it discussion based with YOUR OWN layout, involves knowing a little more than just html, a bit of css, and a bit of java.

i wish you luck, but you're obviously not as experienced as you want people to believe you are.

Learn PHP or flash at least.

I mean people who don't know websites won't know different but still.

I would never ever recommend building a site with css, or java really. And NEVER ever ever HTML.

I do not agree with strike'd area's

html, css, PHP, SQL, photoshop
I'd recommend mysql for the databases, since it works really well with PHP.

for funsies: apache learn it, use it, love it
GET YOUR NOTEPAD++ AND HAVE SOME FUN!

MY OPINION: i HATE asp.net, Flash is nice but it's not important tbh. You can get paid more if you do flash though.

I only mentioned flash because it's easier to learn than PHP and it seems to be a trend again for sites to be all flash based.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't use flash, all i'm saying that PHP has worked really well for me, and i found it pretty easy to learn, i'm not a graphics oriented person, i like my text, and non-graphical based programs.

It's a growing trend because it's easy to make a website in it fast once learned, and you can charge extra for the site.

All just opinions.

the thing with flash is all the information contained in the flash sections will not be found by search engines. it's prettier, and easier, but it's probably more detrimental for your site.

If I wasn't new at this, I wouldn't be asking for opinions, now would I? If I wasn't new, I also wouldn't be doing this for the experience. please don't presume you know what I want and dont want people to think.

Distracting animated gifs = bad.
Comic Sans = bad.

Other than that, it looks pretty good. I don't understand why there'd need to be a members area though.

BTW, a domain typically goes for about $8 for a year (don't use GoDaddy unless you like going through lots of trouble to switch domain registrars). And you can get your hosting from 110mb.com for free. They're pretty good.

Re: freelance webdesign

Hmm, I work part-time as a web designer for a company. So far I've used HTML, CSS, php, aspx, js and flash. Mostly for a site, we're using HTML and CSS for sure, and the rest for a few select things. Some sites are entirely aspx, which itself is mixed up. Maybe I seem naive if I find it impossible to code in only one language like php or flash. Sounds kinda mcgay.

Flash has its nice and bad qualities. Isn't it good that search engines find information? Then you'll get your site discovered easier. Depending on what it is though, but if you don't want it found, don't publish it.

And, you can host nicely at a few free places. But I totally agree, like goblin said, you need to know what you're doing to avoid using templates and just upload your own site. Not sure why xXpoisonXx even posted now that I realize it's a template and not her actual work. Gay.

I don't think she wanted opinions on the site itself, she wanted to know if the information she put on it was good.
