| Douchebaggery! | November 7, 2009, 9:49AM | A heavily pregnant woman and her fiance have gone on the run after social workers threatened to take away their baby at birth. Kerry Robertson, 17, and Mark McDougall, 25, had been told that she was not bright enough to raise their child and that they would have to give him up. It was another blow for the couple, whose wedding this year was halted just 48 hours before the ceremony in a row over whether Miss Robertson was intelligent enough to marry. Last night, Miss Robertson, who has mild learning difficulties, said: 'I have been out of my mind with worry about my unborn baby being taken away. 'Although Ben isn't born yet, I already love my baby and know I will be a good mum. Mark and I talk to him inside me every day and tell him we love him. 'We've already bought him clothes and my cousin, who recently had a baby, has handed down a beautiful crib for him.
Oh yeah, britain is SOO much more civilized. At least we only take away crack babies and the like.
Mr McDougall, an artist, said they had made their decision after seeing minutes of a meeting this week where social workers claimed their baby could suffer 'emotional harm' if left with Miss Robertson - an allegation they say is 'ridiculous'.

Just because no one understands you, doesn't mean you're an artist.

| Re: Douchebaggery! | November 7, 2009, 10:15AM | Also number 1) It said they threatened to take the baby away, not that they would take the baby away. My dad used to threaten to ground me all the time as a kid.. he never actually did it. I guarantee that a social worker was just simply looking into the case and this low intelligent 17 year old has taken it to mean something more serious. I don't see any quotes from a social worker there to support the claim that they plan to take the babt away. 2) I'd like to know what paper this is from. I bet it's from the sun or daily mail or news of the world or another working class tabloid. Which would make me laugh because do you know how much bullshit those papers spout? It's pretty naive of anyone to believe what they read in British tabloids tbh.

| Re: Douchebaggery! | November 7, 2009, 10:16AM | Actually, it's from the Daily Mail. I can't find any other articles from any of the decent newspapers we have. So yeah. ;/
Also, this is Scotland, they have slightly different laws to the English. Plus you missed some details out, like the 17 year old was in social services care before the pregnancy.

| Re: Douchebaggery! | November 7, 2009, 10:23AM | LMAO oh man. Mike thinks posting something from the daily mail is CREDIBLE? Jesus that's hilarious. The Daily Mail of all papers. Brilliant. I loved that I guessed that right.
Also where it says: Their case has been referred to the European Human Rights Commission, which is investigating whether Fife has broken human rights laws.
This will be bullshit. You have to exhaust domestic remedies before you can go to the ECHR. Otherwise they will find your case inadmissable and chuck it out without even reading it. They haven't even started with domestic remedies.
Sometimes I love being a law student.. it means I can point out bullshit. Yay.
So yeah I'm gonna have to say this article is heavily exaggerated and full of bullshit.
